Introduction
What is the Brand Secure System?
The function of the Brand Secure System (BSS) is to eliminate product piracy.
At the same time, every consumer should be able to verify the authenticity of a BSS-protected product with an easy-to-use app.
Verification is provided using a patented system. Every product protected by BSS has two QR codes. One of these codes is open and can always be scanned by everyone. This open QR code is primarily used for supplying information. For example, the manufacturer of the product can set up a page which the user sees after scanning the open code. For example, the ingredients or materials, production conditions and supply chains can be saved here.
The other code is sealed with a scratch-off surface and can only be revealed by scratching off the top layer. Scanning this closed code displays a page. The scan page can also be modified by the manufacturer of the product. However, the product is checked during scanning to see if it is fake. This is achieved with a variety of heuristics, for example how often a code has already been scanned and where.
The following video provides a simple explanation of the entire process:
With a dashboard, each customer or manufacturer should be able to look at the performed scans, see which labels are in circulation and, of course, buy new labels. The customer should also be able to use the portal to set what happens in a scan and which information is displayed to the end user. See the requirements with regard to this.
When using the app, it should also be possible to mark the products as purchased. If a recall campaign should occur, the users should be informed of it directly.
