Overview

In this chapter, we will provide an overview of the Brand Secure System (BSS) architecture and explain the key concepts and terminology used in the BSS context. Below is a diagram illustrating the architecture and a detailed explanation of the main components and their roles.

BSS Overview

Key Concepts and Terminology

Manufacturer

The manufacturer is the entity that produces and sells physical products to customers. The manufacturer aims to ensure that the products sold are not counterfeit and are not involved in gray market sales.

Product

A product is any physical item produced by the manufacturer and sold to customers. Each product is equipped with a BSS label to ensure its authenticity and provide additional information to the customer.

BSS Label

The BSS label is a crucial component of the Brand Secure System. It consists of two codes:

  • Open Code: This QR code is always accessible and can be scanned by anyone. It provides general information about the product, such as the place of production and other relevant details.
  • Closed Code: This QR code is sealed, for example, with a scratch-off surface or printed on the inside of the packaging. It can only be revealed by scratching off the top layer or opening the packaging. The closed code is used to verify the authenticity of the product. To do that, the customer has to verify the code.

Batch

A batch is a quantity of labels. This is the smallest manageable unit. The best way to think of a batch is as a roll of labels intended for a specific product.

Customer

The customer is the end-user who purchases the product. The customer can scan the open code to get more information about the product before purchase. To verify the authenticity of the product, the customer can scan the closed code using the Verify App or an app provided by the manufacturer.

Scan Page

A scan page is the result shown to a customer after scanning a code. A scan page contains the information to be displayed to the user during scanning. You can see an example of a scan page in the Verify App chapter.

Verify App

The Verify App is an application that allows customers to verify the authenticity of a product. The app can be the official Verify My Product App provided by BSS or a custom app provided by the manufacturer. By scanning the closed code, the app checks if the product is genuine and provides the customer with the verification result.

BSS Portal

The BSS Portal is the central interface for manufacturers to manage their products, labels, and scan data. Through the portal, manufacturers can:

  • Manage company details and invite additional employees
  • Order and manage batches of labels
  • Create and organize containers
  • Assign scan pages to containers
  • Monitor and analyze scanning data to detect potential counterfeiting or gray market activities
