Fake Score

warning

The concept of the FakeScore will be removed with the upcoming versions of BrandSecureSystem and will therefore be considered obsolete in the future.

Introduction

The fake score is an important part of the Brand Secure System (BSS). It is used to quantify the authenticity of a product to ensure that fakes are detected and can be tackled. The fake score and how it is calculated and used in BSS are explained in this user documentation.

Fake score: definition and meaning

The fake score is a value between 0 and 100 %, with 0 % meaning that the item is certainly not a fake and 100 % that it is most definitely a fake. The fake score is calculated with every scan regardless of whether it is an open or closed code.

Calculation of the fake score

How the fake score is precisely calculated is a company secret kept to maintain the reliability of the BSS. However, factors such as the number of scans, the locations where they happen and the devices used are included in the calculation.

Adjustment of the fake score threshold value

Since different customers have different demands regarding counterfeit protection, it is possible to determine from which fake score a product is to be classified a fake. Experience has shown that a value of 80 % is adequate for most products. In medical goods or those that are otherwise problematic, this value may also be set lower. The setting can be found in the respective containers or product batches.

Fake score and open codes

The fake score concentrates on closed codes, as they are used for checking the authenticity of a product. Open codes on the other hand are used for providing general product information and therefore cannot be analyzed in the same way. However, open codes can help to detect counterfeit products by supplying information about the scanning location. If a product batch is scanned in an unexpected country or unexpected region, this can also point to a forgery.

Summary

The fake score is a significant part of the Brand Secure System for checking the authenticity of products. It is based on a variety of factors and helps to effectively detect and combat forgeries. Customers can individually determine the safety requirements for their products by adjusting the fake score threshold value.
